Dr. Snehasis Sur (21st May 2025) is a Sr Journalist and Media Educator. He retired with the rank of Additional Director General of Doordarshan, India’s public service broadcaster. Currently, he is a Professor of Practice, at St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata.
Early life & Education
editDr. Snehasis Sur completed his Master’s and Ph.D. in Journalism from the University of Calcutta. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in public relations from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and a postgraduate diploma in media law from NALSAR, Hyderabad.
Career
editDr. Sur is a senior journalist and media educator with an extensive career in journalism and broadcasting. He retired as the Additional Director General of Doordarshan, India’s public service broadcaster. Currently, he is a Professor of Practice, at St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata. Apart from this, he is also associated with many universities in Kolkata. Throughout his career, he has been involved in journalism training and education, serving as a Guest Faculty and Board of Studies (BoS)[1] Member at multiple universities and national media training institutions. He is an empanelled trainer for the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), Kuala Lumpur, where he has conducted numerous international training programs. In recognition of his expertise, he was invited by Keio University, Japan, as a Global Guest Faculty. Dr. Sur has been associated with the Press Club Kolkata[2][3], serving as its President for several years, playing a key role in media advocacy and journalism initiatives.
Contributions and Achievements
editDr. Sur has presented research papers[4][5][6][7] at various national and international conferences. He has authored multiple books and received several awards for his contributions to journalism. As a seasoned journalist, he has travelled extensively, covering significant assignments both in India and abroad. He has been a part of official journalist delegations and has accompanied several Indian Presidents and Prime Ministers on their international visits.
