Really good start to the Japan arc and a refreshing one too given the calmer nature of the setting for once. Feels refreshing only seeing one building blow up in the episode and not just see blood and guts spilled every few minutes across the whole city. Plus, given how Rock and Revy have known each other for a long time now, easily over a year, I like the progression that both have somewhat shown since its clear that both are rubbing off each other a little and Revy clearly trusts Rock a lot more with letting her guard down a bit compared to how rough it was initially. Her having fun with the kids while shooting with toy guns and pretend dying with absurd referential humor to Western movies from the past is pretty fun too. A slow start to what looks like an interesting and promising arc over time and the whole episode just showed how tranquil that life is in Japan compared to Revy's entire life before this instance where she's had to deal with bad cops, gunfire everywhere, and a toxic environment for the most part. Japan does have flaws and fights but the setting was a much more oddly calmer one for sure, even Rock felt that way despite living in Japan for most of his life since the past year of his life has been way too chaotic with his life and balls on the line too many times.
Plus the dub handled the Balalaika-Washimine Group scene well. There wasn't crazy Engrish of course, while they retained the Japanese men speaking actual Japanese too, including Rock who acted as a translator and medium between the Russian and the Japanese group. There wasn't subs for when the Japanese men were talking but Rock was doing translations for Balalaika most of the time anyway so nothing felt lost.
P.S: GG for Benny and Janet being an actual thing after their makeout session last time around.
Even in the midst of all of Balalaika's underground crime dealings, this episode felt like a nice breather
I'm watching the English dub so it was a little hard to tell whether the characters were actually speaking English or just speaking their native language
Anyway, the Revy and Rock scenes were fun and I actually really liked Revy's new outfit
Seems the next few episodes will take place in Japan. It's interesting to see Rock, Revy, and Hotel Moscow outside of chaotic settings like Roanapur. I'm watching this during the winter, so the snow in this episode is appropriate. It is a little unbelievable that Hotel Moscow can do assassinations with bombs and assault rifles and Japan doesn't go into a state of emergency or something. This episode gives a little more focus to Rock and his uncertainty about the past with his family and his current situation. I'm interested to see if we'll learn more about Rock.
Well well , mc and pink hair looked good together but this is it for me now . not even russian chick is entertaining enough to continue this sequel . ciao lagoon!
Okay. So, when Balalaika speaks in English, Rock translates.
But the Japanese people respond and she doesn't need translation... (she clearly understands Japanese)
But doesn't speak directly in Japanese, responding in English?
I can't see the point. Lol
(On the other hand, I've always wondered if English speakers understand "English speakers" in anime. There are very few seiyuu who have a good pronunciation.)
I knew I would see Revy act calmer at some point but I never imagined seeing her blush. That was unexpected.
Slow but entertaining episode! It feels like just before the storm.
